Anyone hunting in Texas born on or after September 2nd, 1971.
A Texas Hunter Education Certificate is required for anyone who hunts game within the state, born on or after September 2nd, 1971, including out-of-state hunters. Hunters must be at least 9 years of age and attend a field day to get certified.

A Texas Hunter Education Certificate is required for anyone born on or after September 2nd, 1971, (including out-of-state hunters) planning to hunt in the state of Texas.
You must obtain a minimum of 80% score on the module quizzes in order to proceed to the next module, and a minimum score of 75% is needed to successfully pass the final exam.
For individuals aged 9 through 16 must take the online course, pass the exam, and take a minimum 4-hour field-day course. For anyone age 17+ you must take the online course and pass the online exam – no field day is required.
The HUNTINGsmart! Hunter Safety Course standard cost is $29.95. This includes the online course, exam, and your certification. For youth hunters a field course is also required for certification. The cost of this course is $15.
No. Your Hunter Education Certificate is different from an annual hunting license purchased from Texas Parks & Wildlife Department. A hunting license is required of any person, regardless of age, who hunts any animal, bird, frog or turtle in this state (except furbearers, if the hunter possesses a trapper’s license).
Yes. The HUNTINGsmart! online hunter safety course adheres to IHEA-USA standards and meets the mandated hunter safety requirements of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.
